Governors

Our Governing Body are responsible for the strategic direction of the school and to hold it to account for its performance.

Our Governing Body meet as a whole Governing Body each half-term. In order to help achieve its objectives the governing body focuses on Children and Learning in the first half of the term and on Resources in the second half of the term. There is a separate Resources Committee, they oversee the financial management of the school. Where necessary the Resources Committee approve budgets, these are then presented to the Full Governing Body for ratification.
Our Governing Body meets 9 times each year.

If you would be interested in being part of the Governing Body and to find out if we have any vacancies please contact the School Office.
School governors play an essential part in the life of the school as they are responsible for helping to ensure the best possible education for the students.  This involves:
  • Setting the vision and strategic direction, policies and objectives of the school
  • Monitoring, evaluating and holding to account senior staff for the performance of the school including performance management of staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and ensuring money is spent to further the aim of providing the best possible education for the students
The governing body is made up of a number of types of governor who represent the different stakeholders involved in the life of the school. They are:
Authority Governors are nominated by the Local Authority but appointed by the governing body.  They are appointed if it is felt they have the skills required to contribute to effective governance within the school.
Co-opted Governors are appointed by the governing body.  They are individuals within the schools community who it is felt have the skills required to contribute to effective governance.  For example individuals from the local business community
Parent Governors are elected by the parents of children at the school. At the time of their election they usually have a child at the school.  Parent governors can also be appointed if there are insufficient nominations.
Staff Governors are members of staff who are elected by their colleagues.  This also includes the head teacher who is an ex officio governor.
All governors are appointed to a four year term of office.
In order to help achieve its objectives the governing body has established two committees: Children and Learning and Resources.
The Children and Learning committee is responsible for progress and attainment of students. Whilst the Resources committee is responsible for the financial management of the school including the physical and human resources. These committees meet on a termly basis.  In addition, the FGB meets at least on a termly basis and focuses on the overall vision and strategic direction of the school.
Further information is included below on the individual governors appointed.
