  • Early Years
We have also been really busy with lots of sports activities and school competitions.
This half term we continued the topic of Australia because there was so much we wanted to find out about.

Summer 2

While visiting the wallabies we were able to handle some Californian snakes.
We were even lucky enough to go and visit some wallabies. Year 2 were much quieter than Year 1 and were able to get much closer to them.
During this half term we have been learning about Australia. We have learnt a bit about the country and the states.  We really enjoyed learning about some of the animals native to Australia and we created our own booklets about them.
We had a busy start to this half term.  Year 2 had their SATS papers and they all did really well.  Year One then had their phonics check and they were great.

Summer 1

Summer Term 2019

To enhance our learning we made a visit to Brighton Toy Museum.  We enjoyed the hands on experience of handing toys of different ages. We had to be very careful and use our History Detective hands. We also learnt about the different materials the toys were made from over the years.
As part of our history lessons we have been learning about Teddy Bears and Toys.
We learnt that Teddy Bears were originally called 'Teddy's Bear' because President Theodore 'Teddy' Roosevelt refused to shoot a young bear cub.

Spring 2
Here are our Gingerbread Men decorated to our own design.
We even designed, baked and decorated our own Gingerbread Man.
This half term we have been reading fairytales and writing some of our own stories based on The Gingerbread Man and Hansel and Gretel.
Spring 1

Spring Term 2019

We wrote letters to Father Christmas and we walked to the local post box to send them.
During outdoor learning day, we wrote promises to help the orang-utans.
Owl class decided they wanted to help the orang-utans.  So we wrote letters to the head offices of large supermarkets asking about the use of palm oil in their products.
Picture
We watched Icelands Christmas advert about the orang-utans.  We did a debate alley about the use of palm oil and how it was affecting the habitat of the orang-utan.
English
We learnt how to set out and write letters.
History
We learnt about Queen Elizabeth II and compared her life to Queen Victoria
Crowning Glory
Autumn 2
We created our own castles from cardboard boxes. We had to work together as a team.
We went on a visit to Bodiam Castle in East Sussex

History
