Spring Term 2: This half term, Owl Class topic focus has been Australia. We have learnt about the seven continents of the world, as well as focusing on the country of Australia. We learnt about the Great Barrier Reef, as well as some of the animal’s native to Australia. In art, we have been using clay and learning how to cup, roll and coil. We have used this technique to create clay pots. We have also looked at the artist Yayoi Kusama and how she uses dots within her art and we have used this style to decorate our clay pots.
Spring Term 1: This half term we have been focusing on Florence Nightingale in History and how to keep ourselves healthy in Science.
We have learnt about Florence Nightingale and how she changed the profession of nursing. Owl Class had a great day finding out about Florence Nightingale through a a morning of drama. Which they thoroughly enjoyed.
In RE, we have been looking at Judaism and learning about the importance of The Torah and how this contains rules to help Jewish people to live good lives. These rules make life fair for everyone and help them to worship God.

Autumn Term 2: This half term we have been working really hard with Wren Class to create our Christmas performance of Boogie Woogie Nativity. The children had to memorise their lines and cues to go on stage, as well as acting and singing.
In History we have been learning about toys and teddies. We went on a class trip to Brighton Toy Museum, we learnt a lot about toys from by gone years plus we were lucky enough to get to play with some of them.
Year 2, also made a visit to St Bartholomew’s Church in Horley, about the Christian meaning of Christmas.

Autumn Term 1: This half term we have been focusing on fairy tales and particularly Little Red Riding Hood. In writing, we have been focusing on our non-negotiables that are a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence, finger spaces and a full stop.
In ART, we have learnt about making rubbings, repeating patterns and stamping. We have looked at the artist Andy Warhol and Pop Art. We created our own stamp and used this to create a piece of work in the Pop Art style.
In RE, we have been learning about God’s creation and how he made food for us to eat, this was tied into our harvest festival assembly and we looked at the food we get from the Caribbean. We found that sugar and cocoa beans can come from there.
