Year 1 pupils take a Phonics Screening Check in June. Pupils are asked to sound out and say real words and non words. For example; 'spot' and 'strom'. Pupils are presented with 40 words. In 2018 they were expected to achieve 32 words or more to pass the check. Pupils who do not achieve the pass mark in Year 1 are reassessed in Year 2.

2019 Phonic Screening Results

  • In Year 1 86% of pupils passed the Phonic Screening Check
  • In Year 2 50% of pupils passed the Phonic Screening Re-Check (4 pupils took the re-take)
