Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education

Curriculum Intent
The intent of our PSHE curriculum is to prepare our pupils for young adulthood. We use a progressive curriculum where pupils learn important life skills and knowledge to help them to live healthy and informed lives to impact positively on their intellectual, social, physical, mental, spiritual and cultural development.

It is our aim that pupils are:
  • Confident ~ understanding themselves and how they will develop, grow and change. In knowing where help is available to them, whether their need is online or offline.
  • Valued ~ knowing that they should be valued for who they are and their uniqueness. That they should value the similarities and differences of those around them.
  • Prepared ~ for the next stage in their growth and development, for secondary school and lift beyond.
  • Successful ~ in their relationships with others, understanding themselves and being able to problem solve all the challenges that life presents.

This is taught through Personal, Social and Emotional Development in the Foundation Stage. In Key Stage 1 and 2 PSHE covers six areas:
  • Relationships and Sex Education
  • Drug Education
  • Staying Safe including Online Safety
  • Financial Capability
  • Emotional Health and Wellbeing
  • Healthy Lifestyles

At Charlwood School we use the PSHE Guidance from the PSHE Association. The association guidance focuses on 3 core areas:
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Relationships
  • Living in the Wider World

Our PSHE lessons take place each week but themes and core learning can also be covered in assembly time and Big Think Time sessions.

Our school are members of the PSHE Association and follow their expertise and guidance. Please see link.
