Mathematics Print E-mail

We want our children to be confident in all areas of maths, be it calculating, measure or problem solving. Mathematics must be relevant and purposeful, and often open ended which allows the children to begin at the same point and develop the activity to their appropriate level.

Maths GamesInitially emphasis is on practical work using apparatus, and progression is made on to written calculations giving practice and memory work. Besides number work the children will gain experience with rulers and tape measure, clocks, scales and capacity equipment. They will learn about shape, symmetry and area and how to display information on graphs and charts. Calculators too are introduced as soon as it is appropriate.

The children are encouraged to work together, to discuss their ideas and to help each other overcome problems and, we hope, to enjoy mathematics too. Mathematics is mainly taught through the Numeracy Lesson.
